Part 7 :How to light your window display?
Which type of lighting is best?
35. Choose spots with beams that can be adjusted each time you change your window display. The way you illuminate your window display not only enhances products; it also helps steer the viewer’s eye exactly where you want it. But be careful not to dazzle passers-by.
36. Of the various systems on the market, the best option is track lighting with adjustable spots. These are extremely flexible and allow you to use different lamp models. The angle and strength of the beam depends on the items you wish to illuminate and their position.
Choosing the correct light intensity
37. Window lighting is defined as a form of accent lighting, and is set at a higher level than the rest of the store, around 1500 lx (light level is measured in lux - luminous flux received per unit area). When choosing a lighting system, avoid those that emit a magnetic field.
38. Illuminance is the luminous flux received per unit area and is measured in lux (lx). When choosing your lighting system, therefore, avoid those that diffuse a magnetic field.
39. If your store has several windows, they should all have the same light intensity.
40. Consider installing a system that automatically adjusts the lighting according to the time of day. Contrary to popular belief, windows need less lighting at night than during the day, when they must “compete” with natural light.
41. Turn off your window displays at night to combat light pollution. Be aware of the law (and timetables) in force in your municipally.
