Part 3 : What structures should you use in your display?

What type of materials should you choose?

8. Opt for modular structures, raw materials and solid wood, which can be reused. To say abreast of trends and the seasons, a display must be changed several times a year. These materials are reusable and are easier to recycle.

How to design the structure of your window display?

9. Take inspiration from the techniques used by the big brands: for ease of assembly and disassembly, use removable and reusable wooden panels to form the base and vertical walls of your window display. This also makes it easier to alter the various materials and colours used within the window display (wood, etc). It enables you to attach accessories, mannequins and decorative elements easily and integrate lighting.

10. Avoid composite materials. If you do opt for MDF or OSB, choose adhesive-free varieties, which do not contain formaldehyde (very damaging to health), and have an ecolabel (see our guide “43 easy tricks for en eco-responsible shop (hyperlink)).

11. If your window display is isolated from the rest of the shop, access it via the side wall, which is more discreet.

12. Ideally, to ensure that you can move freely within the window when changing the display, allow a depth of one metre and an access route wide enough for mannequins and accessories to pass through (at least 83 cm).

13. Ideally, the ceiling of your window display should consist of a metal structure (a grille), allowing you to hang graphic panels, items of decor, or the products you sell.

14. When designing your window display, consider the location of electrical sockets, which should be placed on the side walls.
