Part 5 : Can you use the pavement, and if so, how ?

Do you need a permit?

47. With the advance permission of the municipal authorities, you may be able to use a section of pavement to grab the attention of passers-by and encourage them to enter your store.

When, why and how to use an A-board ?

48. An A-board is the easiest option. Whether you use words and/or images, keep your message clear and concise. It should also be consistent with your brand image, in terms of shape, message, colour, materials, etc.

Attract your customers with a clear and engaging message.

49. A-boards may only be placed on the pavement during business opening hours, and must occupy an area no larger than 0.06 m2. They must not, under any circumstances, obstruct access to your store. Always leave a 95 cm wide gap for the doorway.

What are the rules on terraces?

50. Want to put a few tables and chairs on the pavement? Leave a 1.50 metre wide gangway free for people with reduced mobility, parents with pushchairs, etc.
