Part 3 : Does your shop need a sun awning?

Why and how to fit one ?

30. Some municipalities ban the use of sun awnings. Seek information from the local authorities before you start work.

31. A sun awning is only useful if the products displayed in your window or on a counter close to the window are at risk of being damaged by contact with sunlight.

32. Follow the rules when installing an awning.

What should you be aware of?

33. Hang your awning at an appropriate height. Just like projecting signs, it is vulnerable. Consider trucks parking or turning in front of your shop before deciding on the size.

34. Use the fabric surface to remind passers-by of your shop’s name or logo. It can be an excellent addition to your sign.

35. Certain municipalities have specific rules on the colour of awnings. For example, they must be red and green in the Unesco heritage area around the Grand Place. Do your research!

36. Avoid pale colours, which get dirty quickly. As a result, the canvas degrades more rapidly and needs more regular upkeep.
