Part 6: How to optimise your shop’s renovation?
61. Invest in good insulation. The cheapest energy of all is the energy you don’t use. Insulating walls, roofs and floors and preventing air leakage whenever possible will save you up to 30% on energy costs. You can also obtain allowances to finance these investments.
See more information about the allowances available on: https://environnement.brussels/thematiques/batiment-et-energie/primes-et-incitants/les-primes-en-2020/primes-b-isolation-et
62. Check that your windows are high performance (double or triple pane). In addition to thermal comfort, better acoustics and the energy savings they provide, you will avoid condensation on the glass in the winter. You can also obtain allowances to finance these investments.
More information about allowances for high-performance windows is available at: https://environnement.brussels/thematiques/batiment-et-energie/primes-et-incitants/les-primes-en-2020/primes-b-isolation-et-3
63. Install a good controlled mechanical ventilation (CMV) system. This will ensure optimal renewal of stale air without venting too much warm or cool air. Your CMV system must be equipped with a high-yield heat recovery system (wheel, plate exchanger, etc.) to avoid excessive humidity (especially in hospitality establishments) which can lead to condensation on the windows, and sometimes on the walls. You can also obtain allowances to finance these investments.
More information about controlled mechanical ventilation is available on this website: https://environnement.brussels/thematiques/batiment-et-energie/primes-et-incitants/les-primes-en-2020/primes-b-isolation-et-4
64. Not sure, don't know what to choose or how to get started? Take advantage of the free support provided with the Energy Pack by contacting a UCM energy advisor. They can also advise you on the investment support provided with the Pack and the energy allowances available from Bruxelles Environnement.
